Join Tim Keim in an exercise designed to get you started growing your own delicious mushrooms at home. Tim will introduce you to the wonderful world of fungi. Together you will inoculate logs with mycelium, then take one home to begin your own mushroom garden!

Angelina’s Kitchen is a delicious Greek restaurant that serves sustainable local meat and produce, with gluten free and veggie options.  Lunch will include some falafel, chicken gyro meat, greek salad, quinoa salad, hummus, and pita (gluten free option available).

About the instructor

Timothy Keim is an alumnus of the Paul Stamets Mushroom Cultivation Seminar and has had a fascination with fungi for many years. After attending the Stamets seminar, Tim converted a bathroom into a lab and built a grow room in his garage in Pittsboro. Working with both cultured and local wild types of Pleurotus Ostreatus, or oyster mushrooms, Tim grew his own spawn and inoculated pasteurized straw to proliferate pounds and pounds of delicious oysters, until his lovely partner, Michele, asked for the bathroom back. Since then, Tim takes every opportunity to inoculate logs at home and get out into the woods after a good rain to hunt for his favorite mushrooms. Before becoming an amateur myco enthusiast, Tim developed his lab skills while in the employ of Merck Pharmaceuticals in his beloved home town of San Diego, California.
